Rio de Janeiro is experiencing soaring temperatures, with a maximum of 41.8 degrees Celsius (°C) recorded on Tuesday (18) and a minimum of 22°C. This marks the second-highest temperature for February, following a peak of 44°C the previous day.
Forecasts indicate that the heat will persist in the coming days, with highs near 40°C. Tomorrow, a mix of clouds is expected, alongside moderate winds. The predicted high is 39°C, with a low of 20°C.
Between Thursday and Friday, elevated temperatures will continue, with clear to partially cloudy skies. Moderate winds are anticipated. On Thursday, the maximum is forecasted at 39°C, while Friday is expected to see a slight decrease to 36°C. Similar conditions are anticipated for Saturday (22), with no rain forecasted for any of these days.
The municipality has been under Heat Level 4 since 12:35 PM on Monday (17). According to city officials, Heat Level 4 is characterized by very high temperature indices (40°C to 44°C) extending for at least three consecutive days.
In response to this extreme heat, the city has opened 58 cooling stations across various neighborhoods, providing shaded areas, hydration points, and public restrooms for residents. Locations are available through the municipal operations and resilience center’s resources.
