A journalist on assignment in Ukraine has gone missing following a missile strike on a hotel in the eastern region of the country. Reports indicate that the hotel, located in the city of Kramatorsk, was targeted during the night, leading to significant damage.
A statement revealed that a six-person news team was staying at the Sapphire Hotel when the strike occurred. Two members sustained injuries and have been hospitalized, while three have been accounted for. Efforts are currently underway to locate the sixth member of the team.
According to Ukrainian authorities, the attack was initiated by a Russian missile, although official commentary from Russia regarding the incident is still pending.
Footage from the scene showcases extensive destruction at the hotel, as firefighters work diligently to sift through the debris in their rescue efforts.
Vadym Filashkin, the governor of the Donetsk region, confirmed via social media that emergency services are actively engaged in debris removal and rescue operations. Additionally, he reported damage to several nearby structures.
The Ukrainian General Prosecutor’s Office suggested that a short-range Iskander-M missile was likely used in the attack, noting that those hospitalized suffered various injuries from the explosion.
Situated approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) from areas occupied by Russian forces, Kramatorsk has been under frequent assault, resulting in civilian casualties.
Despite recent efforts by Ukraine to fend off advancing Russian military forces in this area, the situation remains critical as military operations intensify.
