India is set to become a key player in iPhone Pro manufacturing, with Apple planning to begin production of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models as early as September or October this year.
Reports indicate Apple aims to start manufacturing these high-end devices “as close to the global debut as possible,” which is anticipated in early September.
New iPhone 16 Pro color will reportedly be Desert Titanium
This development may not have an immediate impact on consumers, as the new iPhones will still be assembled by Foxconn, Apple’s longtime manufacturing partner. Foxconn, which primarily operates in China, will carry out the production in its factory located in Tamil Nadu, India.

A substantial portion of iPhone manufacturing is already conducted in India. Recent estimates suggest that one in seven iPhones is produced there, mainly by Foxconn and Pegatron. However, this will mark the first instance of iPhone Pro models being assembled in India, highlighting a significant milestone for the country’s manufacturing landscape.
This strategic move is crucial for Apple, as the company aims to manufacture all iPhones sold in India locally to bypass import duties. This goal is reportedly set to be realized by the end of 2024.
