Iconic grime producer Rodney Price, widely known as Terror Danjah, has passed away, according to a label representative. Renowned for his vibrant beats and imaginative sounds, the East London native was a key figure in the grime scene, leaving a significant mark through his work with various labels and his own venture, Hardrive. Details regarding his age and the cause of death have not been disclosed.
Born in Forest Gate to Jamaican parents, Price initially found success as a DJ during the jungle rave scene of the 1990s before pivoting to music production. He became a vital member of N.A.S.T.Y. Crew—a notable grime collective featuring prominent artists—as he launched an impressive array of projects, including the landmark mixtape Hardrive, which inspired the name of his label. Known for his innovative productions, he collaborated with a diverse range of artists such as Wiley, Kelela, and IAMDDB, and in 2014 he partnered with Four Tet on a single. Price is celebrated, alongside DaVinChe and Scratcha DVA, as a pioneering force in R’n’B/grime fusion, contributing to early tracks like Sadie Ama and Kano’s “So Sure.”
In 2019, Price suffered a stroke that left him in a coma, prompting an outpouring of support from artists in the grime and electronic music communities. Following his recovery, he released two new records, Invasion and the EP Red Flag.
In remembrance of the impactful producer, several artists have paid tribute. Kevin Martin remarked on the significant influence Terror Danjah had on music and his generous nature, while peers recalled his warm spirit and encouragement for others in the industry. Many within the grime community are expressing deep condolences, recognizing him as one of the most talented producers in the genre.
