The Kerala State Electricity Regulatory Commission has announced significant updates to the Kerala Electricity Supply Code, aimed at streamlining procedures for new electricity connections. This amendment, officially titled the Kerala Electricity Supply (Fifth Amendment) Code, 2024, establishes a mandated timeframe for providing electricity connections within seven days of receiving an application. In challenging areas, this timeline extends to one month, applicable only when no extension or augmentation of the distribution system is necessary.
To facilitate this process, the amendment designates online submission as the default method for applications. The distribution licensee is required to offer user-friendly online services, including a web portal, mobile app, and chatbot, along with customer service centers. These enhancements aim to expedite the processing of requests related to new connections, modifications to existing connections, temporary connections, tariff changes, and meter adjustments.
Additionally, the revised code addresses the growing demand for electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure by incorporating guidelines for the installation of EV charging stations in multi-storey buildings and for domestic consumers. These changes reflect a commitment to improving service efficiency and supporting the transition to sustainable energy solutions.
