ECNETNews reports that John Deere has announced a significant recall affecting approximately 147,900 compact utility tractors in the United States and an additional 16,800 units in Canada due to serious safety concerns. The recall specifically targets the John Deere 1023E, 1025R, and 2025R Compact Utility Tractors, which may be at risk of a crash hazard due to a potential failure in the front bell crank of the brake linkage. This malfunction could result in a loss of braking ability.
The affected tractors, identifiable by their green and yellow color schemes, were sold with both open and closed operator stations. The model number and the John Deere logo are printed on the hood. Owners can verify if their tractor is affected by checking the serial number, which is located on the front right side near the engine frame.
To date, John Deere has documented four instances of brake linkage failure, leading to one hospitalization, two injuries from impacts, and minor damage to property.
In light of this safety hazard, consumers are urged to cease operation of the recalled tractors immediately and reach out to an authorized John Deere dealer for a complimentary repair. For those unable to transport their tractor, John Deere will provide on-site repair services. The company is proactively contacting all affected purchasers to ensure the repair process is seamless.
For further details, consumers can contact the designated support line, available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET, and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET. Additional information can be accessed online through the official John Deere recalls section.
These compact utility tractors were sold at authorized John Deere dealers across the nation from November 2017 through July 2024, with prices ranging from $12,700 to $21,000.
