Real Madrid Advances to Copa del Rey Last 16 with Dominant 5-0 Win
Real Madrid progressed to the last 16 of the Copa del Rey following a convincing 5-0 victory against Deportivo Minera, a fourth-tier team, on Monday night.
The match showcased the skill of the Spanish champions as Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Arda Guler each found the net in the first half, establishing an early lead. Veteran Luka Modric added the fourth goal before Guler capped off the night with his second goal.
Coach Carlo Ancelotti strategically rested several key players in preparation for the Spanish Super Cup, which is set to take place in Saudi Arabia later this week. Notably, Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Junior made appearances as second-half substitutes.
Valverde opened the scoring with a volley at the back post, followed by Camavinga who extended the lead with a header just 13 minutes into the match. Endrick nearly added to the tally before Guler capitalized on a deflection after cutting in from the right, securing Madrid’s strong advantage.
In the second half, Brahim Diaz struck the post before 39-year-old Modric scored with a beautifully curled effort. Guler secured his second goal in the closing minutes, assisted by Fran Garcia, rounding off a stellar performance for the Turkish playmaker.
Barcelona and Atletico Madrid also advanced to the next round on Saturday, while holders Athletic Bilbao narrowly progressed through penalties against Logrones.
The draw for the next round is scheduled for Wednesday, with matches taking place from January 14-16.
