The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopi, an alleged key associate of Khalistani terrorists Harwinder Singh Sandhu, also known as Rinda, and Lakhbir Singh, also known as Landa, in connection with a Punjab terror conspiracy case.
The investigation clearly identifies Gopi as deeply involved with the banned outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). According to the chargesheet, NIA’s investigation has revealed Gopi’s participation in a conspiracy orchestrated by BKI terrorists to instigate terror in Punjab and beyond.
Gopi is linked to a rocket-propelled grenade attack on the Sarhali police station that took place in December 2022. He maintained communication with his foreign-based handlers from jail and continued contact even after his release.
Furthermore, the NIA’s inquiries indicated that Gopi was conspiring to raise funds for BKI operatives in India through extensive extortion from local businesses under Landa’s directive. He also recruited vulnerable youth into the BKI terror module and conducted reconnaissance on identified targets, allegedly attempting to neutralize those targets.
During a January search operation at Gopi’s residence, NIA officials seized an illegal weapon. Consequently, Gopi faces multiple charges under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act.
This development highlights ongoing efforts by the NIA to disrupt terror activities and maintain safety and security in the region.
