An alarming incident unfolded in Punjab’s Fazilka district as an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader was shot, triggering accusations against a local Shiromani Akali Dal leader. This confrontation followed a heated exchange between AAP candidate Mandeep Singh Brar and several Akali party workers outside the local block development office in Jalalabad.
Brar sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and has been identified as the AAP’s candidate for sarpanch from Muhammad Wala village. He was immediately transported to the Civil Hospital in Jalalabad before being referred to a facility in Ludhiana for advanced care.
Jalalabad MLA Jagdeep Kamboj has publicly accused Shiromani Akali Dal leader Vardev Singh Noni Mann of the shooting. Mann is notably the offspring of former MP Zora Singh Mann.
Officials have confirmed that Brar’s condition is stable. The police have pledged to undertake stringent action regarding this disturbing incident.
As the state prepares for upcoming gram panchayat elections on October 15, this event raises significant concerns about political violence.
