A legal practitioner, known as JP, has announced that the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests will resume on Independence Day, October 1, 2024, if President Bola Tinubu does not meet the protesters’ demands.
During a statement to reporters at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Lagos State, JP emphasized the expectation for President Tinubu to respond adequately to the issues raised. “The president has spoken, and we should wait to see what actions will follow his words,” he remarked.
He added, “If the president commits to lowering fuel prices or reducing the cost of food, he must inform us. Until then, we will remain vigilant.”
JP clarified that if the president fails to implement his promises by October 1, the protests will resume. Furthermore, he vowed to take legal action against any police officer who mistreats him during the demonstrations.
In a related development, President Bola Tinubu addressed the nation on Sunday morning amidst growing tensions from the ongoing protests. He urged an end to the demonstrations and opened the door for constructive dialogue, stating he has acknowledged the protesters’ concerns “loud and clear.” He appealed to protesters and organizers to halt future demonstrations to foster a space for discussion, reaffirming his commitment to addressing their grievances.
