DENVER — Prosecutors are preparing to present evidence that a Colorado dentist, accused of murdering his wife, attempted to solicit a fellow inmate to kill a detective involved in the investigation.
James Craig is charged with poisoning his wife’s protein shakes nearly two years ago. Authorities allege that he ordered a rush shipment of potassium cyanide, claiming it was for a patient, after arsenic failed to kill her.
In late 2022, prosecutors brought new charges against Craig, including solicitation to commit murder and solicitation to commit perjury. The charging documents indicated the intended target of his alleged plot was confirmed to be a detective from the Aurora Police Department.
A hearing is set for Friday afternoon, where prosecutors will present further details to persuade a judge to allow these additional charges to be included in Craig’s upcoming trial.
Craig’s trial has faced delays, and a new date has yet to be established. He has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and tampering with evidence. Efforts to reach his defense attorneys went unanswered.
Angela Craig, 43, tragically passed away in March 2023 due to poisoning from both cyanide and tetrahydrozoline, a substance commonly found in over-the-counter eye drops. The couple was married for 23 years and shared six children.
