The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission reported that several of its staff members, who were actively engaged in election duties, have been detained by the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement released, the commission’s Chairman, Hashim Abioye, expressed gratitude to voters for participating in the electoral process, while also addressing concerns about the lack of accreditation materials.
He revealed that the police had sealed off the commission’s head office, which housed the necessary materials for the election. Abioye clarified that the delays in material distribution were linked to the arrests of officials responsible for transporting these essential election items, but assured the public that new materials had been dispatched and voting was currently underway.
“Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested staff of the commission who are on election duty across the state,” he reiterated.
“For the units where materials didn’t arrive on time, it was due to the police action impacting the officials. However, new materials have been deployed, and voting is now ongoing.”
