Former Deputy National Police Chief Retains Right to Challenge Dismissal in Court

The Police Merit System Protection Board has officially endorsed the dismissal of former Deputy National Police Chief Pol Gen Surachate Hakparn from his position.
After a lengthy 10-hour deliberation, the six-member board unanimously concluded that the Royal Thai Police Office’s order from April 18, which removed him from office, is both legal and justified.
This decision marks another setback for Pol Gen Surachate, who faces an ongoing investigation linked to alleged associations with online gambling activities, which he has vehemently denied. The Police Commission previously supported his removal in a unanimous vote in July.
While the board’s ruling is significant, Pol Gen Surachate’s dismissal is not yet finalized; it requires royal endorsement, which will be submitted by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin for approval from HM the King.
In the interim, Pol Gen Surachate retains the right to contest the dismissal and may pursue legal action with the Supreme Administrative Court.
Although he could not be reached for immediate comment, Pol Gen Surachate previously indicated his willingness to take legal measures should the decision not be favorable.
With speculation surrounding his potential succession as national police chief by the end of September, the recent directive casts uncertainty over his future in the police force.
