In a striking display of responsibility, officers from the Thong Lor police station performed 10 squats together following an incident involving a drunken colleague who discharged a firearm during a dispute with security personnel at a local bar.
At approximately 2:55 AM on Sunday, authorities responded to a disturbance outside a building located in soi Ekkamai 5-Thong Lor 10, where it was reported that an intoxicated individual had fired a shot into the air.
Upon arrival, officers encountered the man brandishing a firearm towards a bar security guard who was attempting to calm the situation.
The intoxicated individual was identified as Pol Sgt Maj Montri Meedetch of the Thong Lor police station, with a blood alcohol level measuring 136 milligrams.
To address the incident, Station Chief Pol Col Pansa Amarapitak convened a meeting with all 140 officers, reiterating the critical importance of responsible firearm usage.
In a symbolic gesture, Pol Col Pansa led his team in completing 10 squats, serving as both punishment for the misconduct of their colleague and a reminder of their accountability.
Following the incident, Pol Sgt Maj Montri was discharged from duty on Monday and is facing multiple charges, including illegal possession and use of a firearm in public, as well as assault and intimidation.
