The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully rescued 12 victims of human trafficking in Kano. The rescue operation, conducted by the Kano State Police Command, highlights ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking in the region.
NAPTIP’s Zonal Commander, Mr. Abdullahi Babale, announced the recovery during a press briefing in Kano. He revealed that three suspects—Shafi’u Salisu, 25, from Bachirawa Quarters, Rebecca Adebayo, 22, from Kwara State, and Mujibat Olagoke, 27, from Oyo State—were arrested in connection with this case.
The rescued individuals, all females aged between 15 and 40, were intercepted on August 3 while attempting to travel to Libya for labor exploitation. Babale confirmed that the victims hail from Ondo, Ogun, Oyo, Kwara, and Imo States.
The Zonal Commander expressed gratitude to the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Salman Dogo-Garba, for his support in the operation. He emphasized that the suspects will face charges once the investigation concludes.
Babale assured that the victims will receive counseling and rehabilitation before being reunited with their families. He urged parents to remain vigilant in protecting their children from exploitation and trafficking schemes that promise better opportunities abroad.
Additionally, he encouraged the public to report any suspected human trafficking activities to the proper authorities for swift action.
