The Ogun State Police Command has announced the arrest of Shedrack Olawale Olayemi, a suspect who had been on their wanted list for armed robbery and alleged sexual assault of female students at Tai Solarin University of Education. The apprehension took place on Monday in Ijebu-Ode.
Police spokesperson SP Omolola Odutola confirmed that Olayemi was arrested following an intelligence report indicating his presence in the university area, where he attempted to disguise himself among the locals.
According to the police statement, Olayemi, aged 33, was identified and captured quickly after law enforcement was alerted. He is the primary suspect in a serious incident that occurred on July 21, 2024, where he and accomplices allegedly invaded the female Royal Villa accommodation at the university. They reportedly stole valuable educational devices, including laptops, iPhones, sports watches, and cash, and committed acts of sexual violence against the students.
A preliminary investigation is currently underway, with Olayemi in custody at the Igbeba police station. He is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and legal proceedings.
In light of these developments, Commissioner of Police Alamutu Abiodun Mustapha has ordered the arrest of Olayemi’s accomplices and urged the Ijagun community to provide any information that may lead to the capture of additional members of the criminal gang.
