Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark on a two-day official visit to Laos on October 10 and 11. This significant trip includes participation in the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
Laos is currently holding the chairmanship of ASEAN, making this visit particularly relevant.
Invited by Laotian Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Modi will arrive in Vientiane to engage in key discussions during both summits.
In addition to participating in the summits, Modi is anticipated to conduct bilateral meetings, further strengthening India’s ties with ASEAN nations, as per MEA statements.
This year marks a decade of India’s Act East Policy, with relations with ASEAN serving as a cornerstone of this strategy and India’s broader Indo-Pacific vision.
The ASEAN-India Summit aims to assess the progress of bilateral relations under their “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” and outline future cooperation protocols.
Furthermore, the East Asia Summit serves as a premier forum for leaders to foster strategic trust in the region and discuss pressing regional issues, emphasizing India’s engagement in multilateral dialogues.
