Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a crucial three-day visit to the United States, commencing on September 21, 2024. This trip aims to bolster collaboration among Quad nations, which include India, Australia, Japan, and the United States, in promoting peace and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.
In his statement before departure, PM Modi emphasized the significance of the Quad Summit, hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden in Wilmington, where he will also address the Summit of the Future at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Modi expressed anticipation in joining President Biden, Prime Minister Albanese, and Prime Minister Kishida at the Quad Summit, stating, “The Quad has become a crucial forum for like-minded nations to collaborate on vital issues facing the Indo-Pacific.”
His discussions with President Biden are expected to focus on enhancing the India-U.S. Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership, reinforcing the commitment to mutual benefits and global well-being.
During this sixth Quad Leaders’ Summit, taking place on September 21 in Wilmington, Modi will also engage with the Indian diaspora and key American business leaders, highlighting their pivotal role in the dynamic relationship between the two democracies.
Furthermore, PM Modi will address the UN General Assembly’s ‘The Summit of the Future’, referring to it as an essential opportunity for the global community to devise strategies for the advancement of humanity. He noted, “I will advocate for the perspectives of one-sixth of humanity, who have significant interests in achieving peace and security.”
The Summit of the Future is seen as a landmark event as the UN approaches its 80th anniversary in 2025, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres labeling it a ‘once in a generation’ gathering.
The India-U.S. partnership is characterized by extensive military collaboration, with numerous joint exercises underscoring the commitment to security and defense. Key exercises include Yudh Abhyas, Vajra Prahar, Malabar, and Cope India, along with multilateral exercises that enhance strategic cooperation and interoperability.
