EA has made a major announcement regarding Plants vs. Zombies 3, revealing that the game will undergo a significant overhaul and will be temporarily taken offline as developers work on reconfiguring it.
Originally soft-launched earlier this year, EA expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic feedback received during the initial testing phase. In response, the company has decided to retool the game to enhance the overall player experience.
In a recent update, EA ceased in-app purchases for Plants vs. Zombies 3 on October 15, and it has also been removed from download options. Players have until November 15, 2024, to experience the game in its current form, after which the servers will be taken offline, rendering the game unplayable.
Players who have earned or purchased in-game currency will have their balances preserved for the game’s return, but all progress, boosts, and narrative elements will reset.
The soft-launch of Plants vs. Zombies 3 initially took place in the UK, Netherlands, Australia, and the Philippines. While a full release was anticipated later in 2024, those plans have now been altered.
Returning to its tower-defense roots, Plants vs. Zombies 3 focuses on protecting Neighborville from zombies by utilizing a variety of garden-based traps and defenses, including both classic and new plant characters.
First announced in 2019, the long-awaited Plants vs. Zombies 3 has seen delays, extending the anticipation for its final version. The original Plants vs. Zombies game debuted in 2009, quickly becoming a sensation for PopCap, followed by the mobile release of Plants vs. Zombies 2 in 2013. While the franchise later expanded into shooter spin-offs, such as the Garden Warfare series, the return to its core gameplay is highly anticipated by fans.
