A tragic plane crash in São Paulo, Brazil, has claimed the lives of all 62 individuals on board, including 58 passengers and four crew members. The twin-engine turboprop aircraft was en route from Cascavel, located in the southern state of Paraná, to São Paulo city’s main airport before it went down in Vinhedo.
Witnesses captured footage showing the aircraft spiraling as it descended. Fortunately, the plane landed in a residential area, and local authorities confirmed that no one on the ground was injured, despite damage to one home in the condominium complex.
Images from the scene reveal significant devastation, with a large area engulfed in flames and smoking wreckage amid nearby homes. Emergency responders, including police and fire services, swiftly arrived at the crash site, and local hospitals have been placed on high alert.
The aircraft, built in 2010, departed from Cascavel at 11:56 local time (14:56 GMT), with the last signal recorded about an hour and a half later, according to tracking data.
In a somber address, Brazil’s President expressed condolences to the victims’ families and friends, emphasizing the tragedy during a public event. He called for a moment of silence and conveyed his sorrow through social media.
Emergency personnel from the nearby town of Valinhos were mobilized, with 20 responders, including vehicles from local civil defense. São Paulo state Governor is also making his way to the crash site to oversee the situation.
The aircraft’s manufacturer acknowledged the accident, extending thoughts and support to those affected and confirming they are actively assisting in the investigation.
