Ensuring tourist safety is a top priority in Phuket as the high season approaches, according to recent statements from the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister made these comments during a meeting with various tourism agencies in Phuket, gearing up for the upcoming tourist peak season from September to February.
Key representatives from multiple law enforcement and tourism agencies attended the meeting to discuss preparations.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for all relevant agencies, especially law enforcement officers, to be well-prepared to offer services to tourists and effectively handle any potential incidents.
Despite the season not yet being in full swing, Phuket has already observed a significant rise in tourist numbers. Reports indicate that Phuket airport is currently managing 20 to 30 flights daily.
During the peak season, the airport is expected to accommodate approximately 14,000 to 15,000 tourists each day, which totals around 600,000 tourists monthly—double the influx compared to last year.
The Prime Minister has also instructed airport authorities to improve baggage handling processes to minimize wait times for travelers.
He highlighted the essential role of the automated document verification system to lighten the workload for immigration officials, ensuring that tourists experience wait times of no more than 30 minutes at peak immigration periods.
Provincial authorities have reported their plans to facilitate tourism and enhance safety through collaborative efforts with various consulates based in Phuket, including those from Russia, China, India, Australia, the United Kingdom, and Scandinavian countries.
The police are set to increase the presence of international volunteers available to assist tourists in navigating local authorities and other needs.
Law enforcement will also strictly uphold regulations to improve safety and reduce criminal activity, particularly with the extension of entertainment venue hours to 4 AM, which has been positively received by tourists. Furthermore, the Prime Minister has instructed the navy to be on standby to assist tourists in case of maritime incidents.
