WhatsApp to Discontinue Support for Older Android Smartphones by 2025
WhatsApp has announced that it will discontinue services on older Android smartphones that no longer receive annual system updates. This change will take effect on January 1, 2025, as the platform aims to introduce new features and functionalities requiring modern hardware, leading to the complete phase-out of outdated systems.
Affected Android devices include:
Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
Additionally, iPhone users with devices running iOS 15.1 will also face restrictions as WhatsApp will no longer be available on these Apple devices starting May 2025.
This strategic decision reflects WhatsApp’s commitment to advancing its platform while encouraging users to transition to newer devices for optimal performance and enhanced features.
