The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially recognized a 10-member caretaker committee, led by Dr. Tony Aziegbemi, as the legitimate leadership of its Edo State chapter. This announcement was made in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary.
The release emphasized that the national leadership of the PDP has noted the troubling actions of certain individuals falsely presenting themselves as the executives of the Edo State party chapter. These individuals have been making unauthorized claims to office, issuing unapproved directives, convening meetings, and taking actions that jeopardize the party’s stability in the region.
The PDP firmly stated that the Edo State chapter is currently governed by a caretaker committee, consisting of Dr. Aziegbemi as Chairman and Hon. Henry Duke Tenebe as Secretary. The committee was appointed by the National Working Committee in accordance with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution, which allows for oversight of the party’s affairs following the expiration of the previous executive, pending the elections for a new committee.
The committee’s membership includes notable figures such as Harrison Omagbon, Fidel Igenegbale, Chris Nehikhare, Tony Anenih Jnr, and Bishop Anthony Okosun, alongside other members Segun Saiki, Adezat Ibrahim, Augustine Edosomwan, and Secretary Henry Tenebe.
The PDP has issued a warning that anyone claiming to be part of the executive committee in Edo State without proper election will be considered impostors, as no new committee has been elected. The party has also stated its willingness to take strict disciplinary measures against those who violate the provisions of the PDP Constitution.
In conclusion, the PDP urges all leaders, stakeholders, and supporters in Edo State to maintain unity and collaborate with the caretaker committee to serve the best interests of the party and the community.
