The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-west extends its heartfelt condolences to the government and residents of Oyo State following the tragic loss of young lives at a Christmas Funfair in Ibadan, the state capital.
A stampede at the children’s Christmas party held at the Islamic High School, Basorun, Ibadan, resulted in a tragic loss of life and numerous injuries.
Chief Sanya Atofarati, the PDP South-west Publicity Secretary, expressed sorrow for the deaths and conveyed sympathies to Governor Seyi Makinde and the grieving families affected by this unfortunate incident, offering prayers for their comfort.
Atofarati emphasized that the tragedy was preventable and linked it to the socioeconomic challenges in the nation, calling upon the Federal Government to take decisive action to enhance the living standards of citizens.
The PDP stated, “This incident underscores the urgent need for the Federal Government to address the prevailing poverty levels in Nigeria. It highlights the necessity for better job opportunities for parents, enabling them to adequately care for their children and improve their overall living conditions.”
“We express our deepest sympathies to the people and government of Oyo State over this heartbreaking event, praying for solace for the families who lost their children.”
Additionally, Atofarati commended the swift response of the Oyo State government, led by Governor Makinde, which played a crucial role in rescuing some injured children and initiating an investigation into the incident.
