Pattaya has experienced a remarkable surge in tourism, welcoming over 12 million visitors in the first six months of 2024. This marks an increase of one million visitors compared to the same period last year, as reported by local officials.
The growth in tourism is attributed to a 9.32% rise in visitors to Chon Buri province, which recorded 11.61 million tourists during the first half of 2023. Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) sources indicate that the total arrivals in Chon Buri and Pattaya City reached approximately 12.69 million from January to June 2024.
Among the visitors, Thai nationals comprised the majority with 7.2 million, while international tourists accounted for 5.49 million. The TAT anticipates an additional one million visitors in the latter half of the year, projecting a total of 25 million for the year, surpassing last year’s record of 23 million.
Officials believe this growth represents a significant opportunity for tourism operators to enhance their marketing strategies, leveraging the province’s advantages such as its proximity to Bangkok and robust collaborations between private and public sectors to host tourism events.
Chon Buri’s vibrant events calendar includes popular attractions like the Pattaya Marathon, the Vijitr Chonburi Light Festival, and the upcoming Amazing Music Festival set for August 31 to September 1. Additionally, the highly anticipated Pattaya International Firework Festival will take place on November 29-30.
The local TAT office is actively promoting tourism events throughout the year, particularly in the off-peak season, collaborating with local airports and carriers to enhance visitor numbers during traditionally slower months.
