The ADMK Workers’ Rights’ Retrieval Committee has urged the DMK government to disclose the findings of a panel led by the School Education Secretary regarding the PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) scheme. O. Panneerselvam emphasized the need for the state to clearly communicate its stance on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 to the Central government.
In his statement, Panneerselvam referenced a letter from former Chief Secretary Shiv Das Meena to the Union government earlier this year, expressing the state’s eagerness to participate in the PM SHRI scheme. He questioned the motives behind the letter, suggesting it might have been an attempt to mislead the Centre for financial gain, while potentially neglecting critical issues such as language policy, state autonomy, social justice, and equality.
Highlighting concerns about student well-being, AMMK general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran criticized the DMK administration over allegations that students in Sivaganga district were made to clean a public ground in preparation for an event involving Youth Welfare and Sports Development Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin. This situation sparked widespread dissatisfaction among educators, who were alarmed that state officials seemingly disregarded existing regulations prohibiting students from being assigned non-educational tasks.
Additionally, AIADMK organizational secretary D. Jayakumar questioned why State Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu failed to attend a recent GST Council meeting, a departure from established protocol. He speculated whether the absence stemmed from the government’s apprehension about addressing issues vital to the state’s interests with the BJP or if it indicated a lack of clarity on what needs to be pursued.
