Pakistani troops have escalated ceasefire violations along the Line of Control, marking the tenth consecutive night of unprovoked firing in regions such as Kupwara, Baramulla, Poonch, Rajauri, Mendhar, Naushera, Sunderbani, and Akhnoor in Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army has responded with calibrated and proportionate measures.
On the night of May 3–4, 2025, the Pakistan Army engaged in unprovoked small arms fire across the LoC, as confirmed by military officials. Fortunately, there have been no reported casualties from these ongoing skirmishes.
These border tensions have intensified following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed the lives of 26 individuals, primarily tourists. In the aftermath of this incident, particularly on April 24, Pakistan took significant measures, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, blocking its airspace for Indian airlines, and closing the Wagah border crossing.
India and Pakistan had previously renewed their commitment to a ceasefire along the borders in February 2021, reaffirming the importance of maintaining peace in the region. However, the recent developments have raised concerns about stability along the de facto border as both nations navigate this escalating situation.
