Baan Phitsanulok returns to the forefront of political activity after being largely dormant for over three decades. Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra held an inaugural meeting at the historic government guest house on Phitsanulok Road with her five-member senior advisory team on Thursday.
“Baan Phitsanulok is officially open,” announced the Prime Minister, sharing updates and images of the meeting on her social media accounts.
This meeting marked the first official gathering since the Prime Minister appointed the influential panel earlier this month, with Pansak Vinyaratn leading the team. Other members include:
- Surapong Suebwonglee, Deputy Chairman
- Tongthong Chandransu
- Phongthep Thepkanjana
- Supavud Saicheua
Constructed in 1922, Baan Phitsanulok serves as the official residence of the Prime Minister, although only Chuan Leekpai has lived there extensively. The ornate Venetian Gothic mansion primarily functions as a guest house for dignitaries.
Baan Phitsanulok is particularly recognized for its historical significance during the tenure of Prime Minister Chatichai Choonhavan from 1988 to 1991, when it served as the command center for transformative policies aimed at revitalizing war-torn regions.
Chatichai’s advisory team, known as the Baan Phitsanulok advisory team, played a crucial role in these developments until the government was overthrown in a coup in 1991. Pansak Vinyaratn, who heads the current advisory panel, also served as an economic policy adviser during the leadership of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, Paetongtarn’s father.
