The Bharatiya Kala Mahotsav (BKM) 2024, which took place from September 29 to October 6 at Rashtrapati Nilayam in Bolarum, Secunderabad, saw an impressive turnout of over 100,000 visitors, showcasing the rich culture of northeast India. This vibrant festival was organized collaboratively by key government ministries and featured over 300 artists and artisans from the eight northeastern states.
On the final day, more than 20,000 attendees joined the closing ceremony, which highlighted a week filled with performances that celebrated diverse art forms, music bands, and choirs from the region. The historic President’s winter residence was buzzing with excitement as crowds flocked to immerse themselves in the unique cultural offerings.
Visitors shared their experiences, with one attendee noting the long wait times for parking and entry, while another highlighted the convenience of pre-purchasing tickets online to avoid the rush. The festival’s pavilions represented the northeastern states, drawing significant interest, although many stalls reported sold-out merchandise by the conclusion of the event. A cheerful message at one of the Manipur stalls expressed gratitude to Hyderabad for its support.
In addition to crafts, the mahotsav also featured a delectable array of northeastern cuisine. However, by Sunday afternoon, many food stalls had run out of dishes, resulting in large crowds around the few remaining vendors.
The BKM 2024 not only provided a platform for showcasing the northeast’s artistic talents and culinary delights but also fostered a sense of community and appreciation for the region’s rich heritage.
