More than 37,000 idols of Lord Ganesh and Goddess Gauri were immersed in water bodies across Mumbai by Wednesday morning, marking the end of the festive celebrations. This year’s immersion processions, which began on Tuesday morning, transitioned seamlessly throughout the night as thousands of devotees flocked to the city’s beaches, lakes, and artificial ponds for this sacred ritual.
The iconic idol of Lalbaugcha Raja Ganesh was immersed into the Arabian Sea at Girgaon beach around 10:30 a.m., attracting a massive crowd eager to bid farewell to the beloved deity. In addition, Chinchpoklicha Chintamani, another prominent Ganesh mandal from Lalbaug, joined the procession along with various other community idols.
Immersion ceremonies took place not only at Girgaon but also at Dadar, Juhu, Marve, and Aksa beaches, alongside artificial ponds established throughout the city.
By Wednesday morning, officials reported that a total of 37,064 idols, including 5,762 from community groups, had been immersed. Among these, 11,713 idols were offered to the artificial ponds set up across Mumbai.
The local authorities made extensive arrangements for the immersion, deploying thousands of personnel, lifeguards, and emergency services to ensure the safety and smooth flow of the processions.
The Ganesh festival commenced on September 7 and concluded on September 17. For enhanced security and crowd management, over 24,000 police personnel were deployed across Mumbai, with additional support from various specialized teams.
This year’s celebrations showcased the city’s vibrant cultural spirit, drawing thousands to partake in the time-honored tradition.
