The widely popular teen drama Outer Banks has received a concerning update concerning the filming and anticipated release date for its fifth season. Debuting in 2020, the series quickly built a substantial fan following. Following the release of four seasons, the most recent installments aired in October and November 2024. While many fans held out hope for a release in 2025, new information has dashed these expectations.
Outer Banks Season 5’s Release Date Pushed to 2026
In a recent discussion, one of the creators of Outer Banks disclosed that filming for Season 5 is set to begin in 2025, indicating that the season might not arrive until 2026. This was confirmed during an interview where they stated that shooting will take place from spring through the end of 2025.
The creator is also launching a new production company, starting with a film titled Driver’s Ed, directed by Bobby Farrelly, which will commence filming in early 2025 in Wilmington, North Carolina—also the backdrop for Outer Banks. Since filming for Driver’s Ed will wrap up prior to the start of Outer Banks Season 5, fans may have to wait until 2026, or potentially even longer, for the new season to debut.
Historically, the second season of Outer Banks premiered 15 months after the first season. However, the subsequent third and fourth seasons saw extended gaps, with each releasing approximately 19 months after their predecessors.
