After two years of negotiations, Apple Store workers in Oklahoma have secured a tentative agreement with the tech giant, marking a significant milestone in labor relations.
The newly proposed agreement includes a wage increase of up to 11.5 percent over three years, guaranteed paid time off, and enhanced job protections for employees. The workers at the Penn Square Mall Apple Store voted to unionize with the Communication Workers of America in 2022, making it just the second Apple Store in the country to achieve this status.
“Today, my 80 coworkers and I have secured a tentative agreement with the world’s most profitable corporation. Over a year of determination at the bargaining table has led us to this moment where we can finally claim the pay raises, protections, and benefits we deserve,” said a worker representative from the Apple Retail Union-CWA. “Thanks to our collective efforts, Apple retail stores are now recognized as the most profitable per square foot in any industry, and this agreement ensures we receive our fair share.”
The Towson Town Center Apple Store in Maryland first set the precedent for unionization among Apple stores in 2022, igniting a wave of similar movements within the tech sector. Although other stores, including those in New York City and Atlanta, explored union options, only the Oklahoma and Maryland locations successfully formalized their unions.
