Kamorudeen Ogunlana has officially taken office as the ninth Clerk to the National Assembly, succeeding Sani Tambuwal. The handover ceremony was held on Saturday at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, with the presence of senior management staff and distinguished guests.
During the ceremony, Tambuwal formally transferred leadership, stating, “I hand over this document on the National Assembly to Kamorudeen Ogunlana.”
Ogunlana expressed appreciation for Tambuwal’s tenure, praising his leadership and commitment to the assembly, calling the day “historic.” He acknowledged the significance of his role, explaining that the position of Clerk extends beyond administrative duties, comparing it to that of a Head of Service.
“The role of the Clerk to the National Assembly is evolving and is integral within the National Assembly Service, second only to the Public Complaint Commission. It is a substantial position,” Ogunlana emphasized.
He noted the responsibilities involved in managing over 4,000 staff members and 7,000 legislative aides, as well as hosting prominent figures, including the nation’s top leaders. “Hosting the President requires extensive preparation, often likened to a month-long effort,” he pointed out, commending Tambuwal’s ability to navigate these challenges effectively.
Ogunlana also acknowledged Tambuwal’s mentorship, stating, “A successful leader must cultivate their successor, and he has done just that.”
In outlining his vision, Ogunlana committed to enhancing collaboration within the management team and expressed a desire to “democratize” the processes within the assembly. “While I possess a legal and legislative background, I look forward to relying on Tambuwal’s expertise in financial matters, as his support continues even in his departure,” he concluded.
