Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has praised the dedication of voters in Edo for their unwavering commitment to participation in the elections, even amidst heavy rain.
Governor Obaseki arrived at his polling unit in Ward 4, Unit 19 at Emokpae Primary School in Oredo Local Government Area at 11:50 am, completing his accreditation and casting his vote by 11:57 am.
He expressed his admiration for the electorate, particularly the youth of Edo, highlighting their determination to exercise their civic duty despite the unfavorable weather conditions.
“The high turnout and enthusiasm displayed today is commendable. The ballot box in my polling unit is full, signaling a strong interest in this election, with voters mobilized effectively,” Obaseki stated.
He emphasized the significance of these elections for Edo State, stating, “Many young individuals are engaging actively to fulfill their civic responsibilities.”
The governor reported a smooth election process at his polling station and expressed hope for a peaceful collation of results, indicating, “I trust that the counting of results will proceed without disruption.”
Obaseki also expressed satisfaction with the security arrangements in place, commending the military presence during the elections. “The military has performed admirably. The Chief of Defence Staff assured me of their readiness, and I am pleased with their effectiveness, although I have concerns regarding police activity.”
He reported incidents of individuals impersonating police officers at polling locations, which raised alarms. “We are ensuring the proper deployment of our representatives and are actively monitoring the situation, remaining hopeful for a successful election outcome.”
