Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State have arrested an additional 11 suspects involved in the vandalism and looting of the Nigerian Communications Commission Digital Industrial Park. This significant operation took place on Thursday, as confirmed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer.
The arrests followed credible intelligence gathered by the NSCDC’s intelligence and investigation unit, targeting individuals accused of damaging and stealing resources from the soon-to-be-commissioned Digital Industrial Park. The operatives apprehended seven suspects found in possession of valuable items including computer desktop sets, keyboards, LCD televisions, executive chairs, doors, window frames, and drawers. This operation was carried out by the Corps’ Anti-Vandalism and armed squad.
The suspects are believed to have carried out their illegal activities amidst ongoing protests, hiding the stolen items within the Audu Bako Secretariat complex, adjacent to the Kano line motor park. Authorities reported that the suspects were in the process of retrieving the stolen goods when they were captured.
In a related incident, four additional suspects were apprehended while attempting to transport stolen iron shields from a state road dual carriageway.
On Friday at approximately 11:30 AM, NSCDC patrol officers successfully recovered a 50KVA Mikano generator that had been vandalized. The generator, which supplied electricity to streetlights in Dorayi, was abandoned by the criminals upon spotting NSCDC personnel.
An investigation is underway to facilitate legal action against those involved in these crimes. The NSCDC, under the leadership of Commandant Mohammed Falala, is committed to strengthening efforts to protect critical national assets and public utilities throughout the state. Command officials have issued a stern warning to criminals, asserting that anyone caught vandalizing public infrastructure will face arrest and prosecution.
