In a significant announcement, Director General of Police (DGP) Ch. Dwaraka Tirumala Rao revealed that the Government of Andhra Pradesh is set to issue a notification for the recruitment of 6,500 police constables following the resolution of outstanding legal challenges.
During a press conference on October 18, Mr. Tirumala Rao highlighted that the Police Commemoration Day will be observed on October 21, with various activities scheduled until October 31. The police department plans to host an open house, along with essay-writing and elocution competitions, medical camps, and dog shows throughout this period.
The DGP also stated that officers would visit the families of deceased policemen to check on their well-being.
‘Smrithi Parade’ Scheduled
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Home Minister V. Anitha are expected to attend the ‘Smrithi Parade’ to honor the bravery of police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium on October 21.
Additionally, Mr. Tirumala Rao announced an increase in the insurance coverage for accidental deaths from ₹75 lakh to ₹1 crore, and for natural deaths from ₹5 lakh to ₹15 lakh. The insurance scheme, which had been inactive for two years, will be reinstated this year.
Moreover, the government has allocated a corpus fund of ₹2.5 crore through the A.P. Police Welfare Association for the families of 200 police personnel who died while on duty during the 2023-24 period.
