The Northern Senators Forum has strongly condemned the brutal murder of traveling hunters in Uromi, located in the Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
In a statement released in Abuja, the Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum expressed that the incident is both “deeply disturbing and saddening.” The senators highlighted that the victims, who were on their way to Northern Nigeria, were wrongly labeled as Fulani kidnappers and suffered a horrific fate.
“This heinous act represents a blatant violation of the fundamental human rights of the victims. We demand that the Edo State Government takes immediate action to identify and prosecute those responsible for this atrocity,” the statement read.
The forum further called for a comprehensive investigation, emphasizing that the Constitution guarantees every citizen the right to move freely across the country. They urged leaders and security agencies in Edo State to work diligently to prevent such killings in the future.
The statement also commended government efforts, noting, “We appreciate the directive from the authorities for a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice. This response showcases the government’s commitment to uphold justice and protect the rights of all citizens.”
Referencing Section 41 of the Nigerian Constitution, the senators reaffirmed the importance of freedom of movement and residence for every citizen, calling for a united effort among the Edo government, security agencies, and community stakeholders to foster tolerance, understanding, and peaceful coexistence throughout the nation.
