Nintendo has accidentally revealed that the mysterious button on the upcoming Switch 2 is designated as a “C” Button, following a misstep in promotional material for the Nintendo Today app. This clarification came shortly after the March 2025 Nintendo Direct, where the company also unveiled virtual game cards and reintroduced Metroid Prime 4. The news was highlighted by users on various social platforms.
Initially speculated after the Switch 2 announcement at the start of the year, the “C” Button appeared as a blank square beneath the “Home” button on the right Joy-Con, similar to the placement of the NFC scanner on the original Switch. Despite the Switch 2 being slightly larger than its predecessor, it appears there is still space for the NFC functionality alongside the newly introduced button.
While the exact function of the “C” Button remains unclear, historical context suggests an intriguing possibility. The previous Nintendo console featuring a “C” button was the Nintendo 64, which had four such buttons in a configuration located near the current “ABXY” layout.
