Nigerian travel content creator Alma Asinobi has encountered significant challenges in her quest to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest journey across all seven continents. Visa issues have delayed her arrival in Sydney, Australia, making it impossible to meet the necessary timeframe.
Asinobi confirmed in an update that her total journey time will be 71 hours and 35 minutes, narrowly missing the current record of 64 hours set by American veteran Johnny Cruz Buckingham in February 2025. She noted that had she competed against the previous record of 73 hours set by Indian travelers in 2022, she would have succeeded.
The travel enthusiast faced multiple obstacles, including being denied boarding on her flight to Perth, forcing a rebooking to Sydney. In her update, Asinobi explained the complications she encountered and expressed her determination to complete her journey despite the setbacks.
“While I may not have broken the record this time, I’m focused on sharing my experience and inspiring others,” she stated. She also highlighted the importance of her journey beyond just record-breaking, aiming to connect with her followers and foster a sense of community.
In addition to addressing her record attempt, Asinobi is looking forward to her homecoming event on March 30. At this event, she plans to gather Nigerians to sign a national flag as part of her initiative to break another record and celebrate unity.
Asinobi aims to use her experience to inspire others to pursue their dreams despite challenges. Throughout her journey, she has shed light on the travel obstacles faced by individuals with less privileged passports, sparking important discussions on passport inequality and global mobility.
While she may not have achieved the world record, supporters celebrate her spirit and resilience, acknowledging her efforts as a significant victory for herself and for Nigerians.
