New York Police Report Joyride Incident on Subway Train
New York City authorities have apprehended a 17-year-old girl connected to a joyride on an empty subway train that ended in a crash. The incident occurred just after midnight on September 12 at the Briarwood subway station in Queens.
The young suspect faces charges of criminal mischief as police continue to search for her accomplice, who remains at large. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the crash.
Details about how the pair accessed the train have not yet been disclosed by the New York Police Department (NYPD), and it is unclear how far they managed to travel before abandoning the train. Surveillance footage shows one suspect wearing an all-pink outfit, including a shower cap, while the other was in blue clothing.
In addition to the criminal mischief charge, the arrested teenager is also facing a charge of reckless endangerment. The second suspect has been described as a male with a slim build and light complexion, last seen in a blue tank top and red shorts, and carrying a black backpack.
This incident follows a similar event in January at the Forest Hills-71st Avenue station in Queens, where joyriders similarly escaped without causing injuries or damage. At that time, officials suggested the joyriders might have used a stolen key to gain access to the train but reassured the public that the train could not have left the yard and reached active tracks.
Authorities continue to investigate, emphasizing safety and security measures within the subway system.
