Verve Records has officially announced the release of a new album by the legendary jazz trumpeter Roy Hargrove, titled Grande-Terre. This posthumous collection, featuring the renowned ensemble Roy Hargrove’s Crisol, is set to launch on October 18. Listeners can now enjoy the newly unveiled track "Priorities."
During his lifetime, Roy Hargrove’s Crisol produced only one studio album, Habana, which was awarded the Grammy Award for Best Latin Jazz Performance in 1998. The album showcased Hargrove alongside a lineup of exceptional talent, including trombonist Frank Lacy, saxophonists David Sánchez and Gary Bartz, bassist John Benitez, percussionists Miguel “Anga” Díaz and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana, drummer Horacio “El Negro” Hernández, guitarist Russell Malone, and pianist Chucho Valdés.
For Grande-Terre, many of the original musicians have returned to the studio, including Hargrove himself, Frank Lacy, Miguel “Anga” Díaz, and José Luis “Changuito” Quintana. New contributors to this vibrant project include alto saxophonist Sherman Irby, tenor saxophonist Jacques Schwarz-Bart, pianists Gabriel Hernández and Larry Willis, guitarist Ed Cherry, bassist Gerald Cannon, and drummers Julio Barreto and Willie Jones.
Roy Hargrove, who made a significant impact on the jazz world, passed away in 2018 at the age of 49.
