The newly appointed Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Ajayi, has officially taken office. His appointment by President Bola Tinubu came as a replacement for Yusuf Bichi.
In a statement issued by the DSS, Ajayi outlined his vision for the agency, emphasizing a renewed focus on covert operations and the strategic discretion necessary for handling sensitive matters. He assumed his role on August 28, 2024, and was welcomed by the outgoing director, who briefed him on pertinent issues facing the agency. Their mutual respect and prior collaboration were noted during their addresses to the DSS Management and Staff.
A key moment in the transition was the ceremonial handing over of the service flag and other insignias. Following this, Director General Ajayi toured the National Headquarters, engaging with staff and urging them to maintain vigilance, resourcefulness, dedication, and loyalty to both the DSS and Nigeria.
Ajayi expressed his commitment to collaborating with stakeholders to address the various security challenges facing the nation. He articulated the need for a unified approach to ensure peace and stability, vital for Nigeria’s development.
The former director called on all DSS personnel to extend their support to Ajayi in his new role, highlighting the importance of teamwork and professionalism in fulfilling the agency’s mission.
