The National Emergency Management Agency has successfully delivered 1,528.2 metric tonnes of assorted grains to assist residents in Jigawa State.
In a recent statement, the agency highlighted that the distribution was authorized by the President and is being facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to support vulnerable populations across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
This initiative is part of a larger distribution effort, utilizing 42,000 metric tonnes of various food supplies from the National Strategic Reserve.
The statement noted, “In a significant move towards fulfilling our commitment, the National Emergency Management Agency is overseeing the distribution of Jigawa State’s share of these essential commodities.”
The distribution includes 594 metric tons (11,880 bags) of maize, 691.2 metric tons (13,824 bags) of sorghum, and 243 metric tons (4,860 bags) of millet. These vital food items will be distributed fairly across all local government areas in Jigawa State.
Previously, the government announced that it would distribute 42,000 metric tonnes of grains at no cost to address the ongoing food crisis in the nation. Reports surfaced in March indicating that some of these grain supplies had reached at least eight states, including Kano, Kwara, Kogi, Ebonyi, Adamawa, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Taraba.
