Napoli Set to Discuss Victor Osimhen Transfer with Chelsea
Napoli is reportedly gearing up to engage in negotiations with Chelsea regarding a player-plus-cash deal for star striker Victor Osimhen this summer. The Italian club is exploring options following Osimhen’s expressed desire to part ways.
Chelsea has been actively reshaping its squad, led by manager Enzo Maresca, who has welcomed several high-profile signings, including Tosin Adarabioyo, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Renato Veiga. Additionally, promising talents such as Omari Kellyman, Caleb Wiley, and Marc Guiu are joining the ranks, with Brazilian wonderkid Estevao expected to transfer from Palmeiras next year.
Despite these additions, Chelsea is still on the lookout for attacking reinforcements. Among the potential targets have been Aston Villa’s John Dhuran and Lille’s Jonathan David, but a move for long-coveted Osimhen appears increasingly plausible.
Transfer expert insights suggest that Napoli is keen to find solutions for Osimhen’s situation, particularly as new manager Antonio Conte sets his sights on Romelu Lukaku, potentially facilitating a swap deal. However, Napoli would likely demand a significant fee alongside Lukaku, considering Osimhen’s valuation of around £110 million. It remains uncertain whether Chelsea will pursue this avenue.
Osimhen has openly indicated his inclination to leave Naples and is said to have approved a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. Yet, stalled negotiations between Napoli and the Ligue 1 club over the transfer fee have complicated matters.
With Conte making it clear that Osimhen does not fit into his plans, the striker’s absence from Napoli’s lineup during a recent pre-season friendly against Egnatia underscores his uncertain status. The Nigerian international has attracted interest from both Chelsea and PSG, with the possibility of Arsenal also considering a late bid.
As Chelsea seeks to rectify its offensive shortcomings, highlighted by pre-season results including a draw with League One side Wrexham and a loss to Celtic, they may look to act decisively in the ongoing transfer saga. Nevertheless, Osimhen’s wage expectations might pose a hurdle, as Chelsea has been careful about offering high-value contracts this summer.
