Warner Bros. Discovery and Disney are in negotiations with Liga Forte União to secure a broadcasting package for Brazilian Championship games to be aired on paid platforms starting in 2025. Other companies, such as DAZN, are also expressing interest in returning to the Brazilian market, along with Globo.
This interest from major multinationals has energized the clubs that are part of the Liga. Contracts have already been finalized with YouTube and Amazon, as well as Record, which has acquired the tournament for open television. Liga Forte União aims to finalize any remaining agreements by the end of October.
Furthermore, Google is looking to expand its offerings by acquiring a pay-per-view package for matches, similar to its operations in the United States with the NFL.
So far, with agreements secured with three major media groups, the total revenue generated has reached R$ 900 million. Projections indicate that the Liga Forte União could achieve its goal of distributing R$ 1.7 billion, as outlined at the start of negotiations.
Disney is proceeding cautiously in discussions with Liga Forte União, as any agreement will hinge on the company’s current priorities, including international tournaments.
In contrast, Warner Bros. Discovery is more optimistic about the negotiations, particularly for the opportunity to showcase exclusive matches on its streaming service, Max, which currently features prominent football events like the Paulistão and the Champions League.
Previously holding broadcasting rights until 2021, Warner stepped back from the Brasileirão due to unsatisfactory returns associated with contractual changes requested by the clubs.
Liga Forte União includes high-profile teams such as Corinthians, Internacional, Cruzeiro, Fluminense, Vasco, and Athletico-PR in the Série A, along with other clubs like Goiás, Sport, Ceará, and more in lower divisions.
