The Defence Headquarters has detained a naval rating, A. Akila, following the alleged killing of a fellow military colleague. The incident took place at Forward Operating Base Dansadua during Operation Fansan Yamma.
According to reports, the shooting occurred in the early hours of Friday in Zamfara State. The Director of Defence Media Operations confirmed that Akila opened fire several times, resulting in the death of his colleague.
Details indicate that on October 25, 2024, around 0312 hours, Akila discharged his weapon in a questionable manner, ultimately leading to the tragic incident. In response, he has been arrested, disarmed, and is currently in detention while an investigation is underway.
Once the investigation concludes, the case will be escalated to a standing court martial designated to address such issues among military personnel. Efforts are being made to notify the family of the deceased soldier regarding this unfortunate event.
