The bypoll for the Rajya Sabha seat, which was vacated by K. Keshava Rao, is scheduled for September 3, with the Election Commission set to issue the official notification on August 14.
The Election Commission has confirmed that elections for 12 vacant seats, including the bypoll in Telangana, will take place on the same date. This Telangana seat became available following K. Keshava Rao’s resignation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) after his recent switch to the Congress party, despite his term running until March 2026.
Many candidates from the Telangana Congress are vying for the position, though the final decision will likely rest with the party leadership. There is speculation that a senior leader from North India may be considered, given the short duration of the remaining term. In light of recent Supreme Court rulings regarding the categorization of SC reservations, a Scheduled Caste leader may be chosen for this interim period. Experienced politicians such as K. Jana Reddy and V. Hanumanth Rao are also positioning themselves for this opportunity, emphasizing that this may be their last chance for a significant political role.
