Prominent journalist and publisher Chief Dele Momodu has voiced strong criticism against former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose regarding his recent remarks that attribute Nigeria’s growth challenges to poor men having multiple wives and children.
In an interview, Fayose claimed that this demographic is impeding progress in the nation, drawing from his observations in the northern regions of Nigeria.
Momodu countered these statements by questioning who truly poses a greater threat to the country: the poor man with many dependents or the politician whose lavish lifestyle—characterized by expensive tastes and private jets—squanders public resources?
He further challenged the notion that poorer individuals contribute less to society, suggesting instead that those in poverty often engage in productive activities, such as farming, to support themselves and their families.
Momodu urged Fayose and all politicians to acknowledge their collective failures and the need for urgent reform instead of engaging in blame games. He stated, “We cannot afford the blame games at this perilous time.”
In his message, he emphasized the importance of unity and accountability among leaders in the quest for a better Nigeria.
