Portland power-pop artist Mo Troper recently faced significant controversy surrounding his album release. Initially set to drop his new album titled Svengali, the artist’s plans took a turn when the label announced it would no longer be issuing the album following “recent information” regarding Troper.
While the label did not disclose specifics about the “recent information,” it expressed support for victims of abuse. This announcement came on the heels of serious accusations made by Troper’s ex-partner, who alleged abuse in their relationship.
In response to these claims, Troper labeled the allegations as “false” and subsequently pursued a defamation lawsuit against his ex-partner. Recent updates indicate that Troper and his ex-partner have reached a settlement regarding the lawsuit.
During the proceedings, his ex-partner stated that the allegations adversely affected Troper’s career. They clarified that, although their relationship faced challenges, it did not meet the legal definition of abuse. A mutual no-contact agreement has since been established, with an agreement not to make further public disparaging remarks.
Mo Troper independently released the album Svengali under his own label, Day to Day Records, in May.
