Minister of Women Affairs emphasizes the vital importance of economic empowerment in strengthening family dynamics, stating that self-sufficient women can significantly influence their communities.
“At the heart of economic empowerment is the ability to educate children, ultimately bridging the economic divides within families and decreasing instances of sexual and gender-based violence,” the minister remarked during a recent event.
This statement was made at the commissioning of the Nigerian For Women Project Bokwosayi Women Rice Processing Factory in Gwachipe, Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State. The event saw attendance from key officials, including the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Bago, and representatives from global financial institutions.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim referred to the project as a “transformative milestone,” symbolizing hope and showcasing the resilience and potential of Nigerian women, particularly in Niger State.
She praised the factory’s inclusion of childcare facilities, describing it as a “groundbreaking initiative” that tackles significant barriers to women’s economic participation. This advancement highlights progressive leadership and sets a benchmark for inclusive economic strategies.
The NFWP embodies a commitment to gender equality and the socio-economic upliftment of women. “This initiative is a comprehensive, long-term intervention designed to overcome systemic and market challenges inhibiting women’s advancement,” she stated.
The minister expressed appreciation for the support received, highlighting that empowering women contributes to lower rates of sexual and gender-based violence and enhances overall family welfare.
A representative from a major financial institution elaborated on the NFWP’s objectives, noting its role in economically empowering women in Nigeria to elevate household well-being and significantly contribute to the state’s economy.
Sharing a success story, a local leader remarked on the project’s impact, stating that it has alleviated complaints regarding familial financial inadequacies, illustrating its effectiveness in improving family relationships.
It was highlighted that each rice processing facility can produce two tonnes of rice daily, augmenting the output across more than 29 such establishments in the state.
Governor Mohammed Bago lauded the initiative, emphasizing that when women thrive, the benefits extend to families and communities at large. He pledged ongoing support for women and expressed gratitude for the minister’s efforts.
